KELLER, Wash. – The Six Mile and Stranger Creek Fires were both 90% contained Saturday morning.

According to the Colville Tribes Environmental Trust Program, both fires were started by lightning and drew a combined firefighting force of over 100 people.

Crews used dozers and other heavy equipment to keep fire from nearing Inchelium and Twin Lakes. The Inchelium Highway remained closed Saturday, but is expected to reopen Sunday.

Several major fires have burned on or near Colville Tribal land this summer,
