MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — A very small area in the perimeter of where the Gray Fire burned in Medical Lake is still burning almost nine months later.
A spokesperson for Spokane County Fire District 3 confirmed a small pile of debris near Eastern State Hospital remained smoldering on Friday.
The debris pile is made of building material from the 1900’s that got dumped, pushed into a hole and filled in with dirt. The buried pile of rubbish is now smoldering deep in the ground.
The spokesperson said the fire district is working with the Department of Ecology, the Department of Health, the Clean Air Agency and DSHS, which operates Eastern State Hospital, to get the site cleared and put the fire out.
