Smash hits from the late 90’s will make everyone feel like a rock star when Smash Mouth hits Spokane Live @ the Spokane Tribe Casino on June 8th.
Regardless of whether you see yourself as a fan of ska punk or not, you undoubtedly remember dancing to the hits of Smash Mouth during the waning years of the 20th century.
Starting with 1997’s number 1 hit, “Walkin’ on the Sun,” Smash Mouth had a string of hits that included 1999’s song of the summer “All-Star.” Later, “Then the Morning Comes” and the cover of The Monkees’ “I’m a Believer” made some noise on the charts. The other well-known hit, “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby,” was a cover of a Four Seasons hit recorded for the movie Can’t Hardly Wait in 1998.
The band broke into the American consciousness in 1997 with the double platinum album Fush Yu Mang, supported by the smash hit “Walkin’ on the Sun.” But it was their second album, Astro Lounge, released in 1999, that propelled them to superstardom. The song “All Star” was used in the movie Shrek and brought the band to a whole new audience. Their cover song “I’m a Believer” was also featured in the movie and spent some time on the pop charts.
Original lead singer, Steve Harwell, died in 2021 of liver failure and has been succeeded by Zach Goode, who sounds very similar and has maintained the party atmosphere Smash Mouth is known for.
