SOAP LAKE, Wash. – A woman has died following a crash near Soap Lake, according to the Washington State Patrol. The incident occurred when a man failed to stop at a stop sign.
Jessica Oelke, 39, was driving westbound on Highway 28 at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when she was struck by George Martin, 59.
Martin failed to stop at a stop sign, hitting Oelke’s driver’s side door. The impact caused Oelke’s car to flip and come to rest on its top in a ditch against a utility pole.
The Washington State Patrol reported that Oelke was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martin sustained injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Sacred Heart.
Law enforcement is currently investigating the crash, and charges against Martin are pending.
