SPOKANE, Wash. – With the first impactful snow of the season moving into Eastern Washington, some neighborhoods in Spokane, like the South Hill, are trickier to navigate in the winter than others.
“Getting up and down these roads… I mean… They’re steep… there’s not a lot of friction. And it’s dangerous. I’ve seen a lot of cars slide backwards [and] hit other cars,” Reagan Garcia, a South Hill neighborhood resident, said.
Garcia not only worries about driving, but also, walking around residential streets, as she is stuck in a boot and crutches after surgery.
“I don’t want to get more hurt. Break my other foot. That wouldn’t be fun,” Garcia said.
Winter operations are already underway for the City of Spokane.
The City reports that hills, arterials and roads by hospitals and schools are some of the main priority spots.
“The arterials, we’re near the hospital, so the main arterials, are always kept really clear. But, if it’s snowing and the snow is really pretty fresh, I’m nervous about going down hill or going up hill,” Pamela McEachern, a South Hill neighborhood resident, said.
