NEWPORT, Wash. — South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue responded to a residential fire that resulted in significant damage to the home.
According to fire crews, they were dispatched at approximately 8 a.m. on Dec. 12 to a reported fire in the Diamond View Road area off Highway 211.
Upon arrival, firefighters said that they began both exterior and interior fire suppression efforts. Despite heavy snowfall and icy road conditions that hindered access and caused several fire trucks to become stuck, crews were able to contain the fire to the building of origin. However, the home sustained significant damage and is considered a near-total loss.
Multiple outbuildings and vehicles were also threatened, but crews were successful in preventing the fire from spreading further.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
