SPOKANE, Wash. — Nearly 500 trees will be planted throughout Spokane and Spokane Valley to celebrate the SpoCanopy Expo Forest Tree Plantings.
The five-day celebration will be in honor of Expo’s 50th anniversary. The Lands Council staff and volunteers identified places where trees are necessary, and people are willing to care for them.
The trees were funded by the Washington Department of Natural Resources Urban, the Community Forestry Grant and donations from community members.
The Lands Council is also giving away 100 free meals at each event from local food trucks sponsored by Avista.
SpoCanopy, a partnership between the City of Spokane Urban Forestry and The Lands Council, ensures every person in every neighborhood in Spokane has access to trees and the many benefits they provide. Their goal is to have 30% canopy coverage by 2030.
