Spokane Arena to close over summer for renovations

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Arena will close its doors for three months to undergo a $10 million renovation project.

The Spokane Arena entertainment director Matt Meyer says the renovation will take about three months.

“The whole reason for it is putting a whole new retractable seating system in on the north, south and west side of the building. The old equipment is just old, from my understanding it’s the original equipment from when the arena was built,” said Meyer.

Arena renovations will start when doors close after the Lil Wayne concert on May 16. The arena hopes to have everything ready before the Jelly Roll concert.

“This was definitely a good time, since the building is already shut down to start renovating, doing a facelift on all the suites, renovating the entire club and expanding the club by another 80 seats,” said Meyer.

The arena will also get a new freight elevator, more seats, a facelift of the suites and renovated team shower facilities. All these changes will cost over $10 million.

Meyers said you might not notice a big difference aesthetically when you go to a show after the renovation, but taking care of these projects simultaneously will help the arena function better.
