SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane man who suffered life threatening injuries is using art as a form of healing.
Local artist and gallery owner Dylan Lipsker crashed an ATV 16-years-ago resulting in over 10 holes in his lungs, rib splinters in his liver and failing vision in his right eye.
Lipsker took up painting to cope with the mental effects of the crash and says it gave him a new purpose in life.
“I need to do something constructive, so I stayed in, and I painted. I had the materials in my house. I fell in love with making something and having something to show from my time” Lipsker said.
Shadle Park High School Mental Health Therapist Cassie Bowling says art is a great outlet for people of all ages to enjoy.
“On every level, it seems like art helps people be able to express and confront and heal from the things they’ve experienced,” Bowling said.
The accident still remains on Lipsker’s mind, but he says it helped him become the person he is today.
