SPOKANE, Wash. – Saranac Art Projects will exhibit interpretations by local artists inspired by the literary works featured in this year’s annual Get Lit! festival this April.
Through the ancient Greek artistic and rhetorical practice of ekphrasis, local artists created their own works of art that resonate with the author they have chosen.
The featured artists include Mariah Boyle, Becky Busi, Seth Collier, Mary Farrell, Marguerite Gilbertson, Tobe Harvey, Joshua Hobson, Lenora Lopez Schindler, Roger Ralston and Rebekah Wilkins-Pepiton.
Presented by Eastern Washington University (EWU), April’s Get Lit! festival has brought both acclaimed and local authors together since 1998, according to EWU’s website.
The exhibition is open to all on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the month of April. The final day of the exhibition will be Saturday, April 27.
Additionally, an artist reception will be held at Saranac Art Projects on Friday, April 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For community members interested in the literary aspects of these artworks, a Get Lit! panel discussion with artists and writers will also be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at the Magic Lantern Theater. Kate Lebo will be the featured author in the discussion, accompanied by featured artists Rebekah Wilkins-Pepiton, Mary Farrell, Joshua Hobson and Lenora Lopez Schindler.
