Spokane construction season winds down, Washington Street Bridge to open soon

SPOKANE, Wash. – As construction season wraps up in Spokane, city officials are eager to complete some projects before winter sets in.

The Washington Street Bridge, which has been closed this summer, is expected to open early next week with one lane in each direction.

Final inspections are underway now that repairs have been completed, bringing relief to drivers who have faced detours.

However, some work remains unfinished. The city revealed that additional wastewater infrastructure work was necessary, delaying the grind and overlay project. This phase will likely commence in the spring of next year.

During that time, commuters could encounter lane reductions and temporary closures during low traffic periods, although the bridge is expected to remain open most of the time.

Typically, street and in-ground projects don’t occur in the winter due to the area’s climate.

Of the 35 construction projects currently underway, approximately 80 percent are nearly completed. Crews are diligently working to finish as many projects as possible before the cold weather arrives.
