SPOKANE, Wash. — It’s been two weeks since the launch of Spokane’s Crisis Outreach Response and Engagement program (CORE), an initiative aimed at tackling crime in the city.
Every day, an additional four to six officers have been patrolling downtown on foot and by bike, working alongside behavioral health co-responders. The city has also teamed up with I-2 Strategies and Revive Reentry to assist the homeless population in accessing housing and treatment services.
This program serves as a 30-day pilot to test what Mayor Lisa Brown’s administration refers to as “place-based policing,” a data-driven approach designed to identify areas and times with a heightened risk of crime.
As we reach the halfway point of this initiative, we want to hear from you: Have you noticed a difference in downtown crime? Click the link here to participate in our online poll, or visit our Facebook page to share your thoughts.
