Spokane County allocates $30,000 to continued funding of housing program

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Board of Commissioners approved $30,000 of additional funding to the Volunteers of America (VOA) for a stable housing program on Tuesday.

According to Spokane County Board of Commissioners Chair Mary Kuney, the funding will allow VOA to continue working toward reducing homelessness and housing insecurity across the county.

“The Board is pleased to continue supporting this successful program. This investment means people experiencing homelessness can reunite with family or friends outside of Spokane County who can provide a safe and stable place to live in another community,” Kuney said.

Vice Chair Josh Kerns argued that the funding boost will ultimately save taxpayers money.

“Homeward Bound saves taxpayer dollars, by diverting individuals from utilizing other higher-cost systems in our community and allows the County to invest those resources for other pressing needs,” Kerns said.
