SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a $600,000 contract with Maddie’s Place, marking the first allocation from the county’s Opioid Settlement Funds.

According to a press release from the Spokane County Commissioner’s Office said that this contract is part of the broader Opioid treatment and prevention plan unveiled on May 7.

The Spokane County Community Services Department said they will support long-term housing and treatment services for parents and caregivers of infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. The services will include housing, childcare support, care coordination and case management.

“Spokane County is making strategic investments that will have an immediate impact by filling key gaps in the behavioral health system and implementing real solutions to address the existing need in the community,” County Commissioner and Board Chair Mary Kuney said.

In addition to the Maddie’s Place contract, the Board said they allocated $200,000 to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office for tracking substance and opioid use data to disrupt drug trafficking organizations.

The Board of Commissioners said they are expected to consider two more contracts this fall: $1.2 million for Direct Treatment Services and expanded Behavioral Health Triage and Sobering Services, and $5.0 million to expand the Spokane Regional Crisis Stabilization Center with a new Crisis Relief and Sobering Center.

“Spokane County is working diligently with local, state and federal partners to identify areas of collaboration, explore additional funding opportunities, and work toward a joint vision of a healthier and more vibrant community,” Community Services Director Justin Johnson said.
