SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Commissioner Al French (R) trailed Molly Marshall (D) in initial primary election results.
French, who over the weekend, trailed his Democratic challenger by 1% in initially released county results. Marshal took a victory lap Tuesday night.
“Spokane County voters are sending a clear message: They want a change in their government. They are tired of their homes being at risk for fire, polluted water, and road problems,” Marshal said.
French said that he is not concerned with the initial results given that the majority of the vote has yet to be counted.
“Pretty much as I was expecting with late and low voter turnout,” French said.
French has been a member of the Spokane County Board of Commissioners since 2011 and was previously on Spokane City Council from 2002 to 2009.
He continued that he is looking forward to facing Marshall in the November general election.
French’s position is particularly important this year. If he is unseated, it will tilt the political balance of the county commission towards Democrats.
