COLBERT, Wash. — Spokane County deputies arrested a man who reportedly stole mail and packages from homes in Colbert. Deputies are still working to identify victims of the thefts.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating a series of thefts between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5, in which packages and mail were stolen from porches in the Colbert area. Investigators identified the suspect’s vehicle and, later, the suspect himself as Zack Bunke, 39.

On Dec. 5, deputies learned that Spokane police officers were at Bunke’s home near East Lincoln Road on an unrelated theft call and had obtained a search warrant. Investigators said they found several stolen items, including merchandise believed to have been taken during the Colbert-area mail and package thefts.

Bunke was booked into the Spokane County Jail on Dec. 5 by Spokane police officers on unrelated charges of first-degree possession of stolen property and obstruction. He was released on Dec. 9 after posting a $2,500 bond set by Spokane County Superior Court.

Detectives believe Bunke, a convicted felon, was driving a Jeep through the Colbert area between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5, stealing packages from porches. However, they have only been able to identify four victims linked to his suspected crimes.

Deputies are asking residents who may have been victims of these thefts to contact Detective C. Cupo at 509-477-3151 and reference case number 10170343.
