SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office arrested two convicted felons after they tried to flee police in a stolen SUV and were later found possessing a gun and drugs.
On April 5, at around 9:10 a.m., a deputy noticed an SUV parked oddly on the 7800 block of East Euclid Avenue. The deputy says they checked the car’s license plate and found the vehicle was reported stolen on April 3.
More deputies arrived in the area to assist and at around 10:25 am, a deputy drove by the stolen car to check inside again. Deputies reported that they found two people who appeared to be sleeping in the stolen car.
Deputies surrounded the car and attempted to wake up the female and the driver, who deputies later identified as 31-year-old Dylon H. Nedeff, according to deputies, appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
The female sat up and looked around, appearing confused. Nedeff sat up and immediately began reaching toward the steering column and down between the seats, where deputies say he seemed to prepare for an escape attempt.
A deputy tried to pin the Kia using his patrol car but was unsuccessful. Despite continued commands to stop and surrender, Nedeff accelerated, narrowly missing two patrol cars, and drove down a dead end into a private driveway.
He continued onto the raised railroad rock bed and tried to cross the tracks. Realizing that was futile, Nedeff drove 25-30 down the rocky embankment before getting stuck. While he continued ignoring commands and warnings as he attempted to free the SUV, the female began to comply and surrender, and Nedeff surrendered shortly afterward.
Deputies later found out that both suspects were convicted felons. Nedeff’s name check showed he is a 5-time convicted felon, with eight gross misdemeanor convictions, and prohibited from legally possessing a firearm. The female was a 2-time convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a gun.
Nedeff was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail, and the Kia was seized as evidence pending a search warrant.
At approximately 2:15 pm, Deputies executed a valid search warrant. During the search, they recovered a loaded Springfield .40 caliber handgun, 30+ pills commonly known as “Mexis” believed to contain fentanyl, drug packaging, drug paraphernalia, and a black ski mask with the word “heartless” on it, along with other items of evidentiary value including several broken cellphones and tablets.
Additionally, a charging request for a warrant for the female was submitted requesting charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Knowingly Possessing a Controlled Substance.
