OLYMPIA, Wash. – A Spokane drug abuse counselor has had her license suspended after allegations surfaced that she engaged in a sexual relationship with a client, who subsequently overdosed and died at her residence.
According to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), they have filed an administrative action against Beth Floyd, a substance use counselor in Spokane, citing allegations of unprofessional conduct and sexual misconduct linked to her work at a local clinic. The charges involve a client who tragically died from a drug overdose, although the department has not revealed the client’s name.
Floyd has been licensed since 2021 and has focused on helping individuals recover from opioid addiction. The court docs said that Floyd provided counseling to a client from August 2022 to January 2023, during which they developed a personal relationship. The former client died from an overdose at Floyd’s home on Feb. 14, 2023.
The DOH documents said that, obtained a search warrant and searched Floyd’s home and reportedly discovered multiple guns, as well as illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The department said that due to this suspension, Floyd is barred from practicing in Washington state until the case is resolved. Floyd has 20 days to respond to the allegations and can request a hearing to contest them.
