Spokane elections official gives update on 26 discarded ballots investigation

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton gave an update on the investigation into the discarded ballots found on the side of the road.

Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton said in an email to NonStop Local.

“We turned the matter over to the USPS. They did tell us that the envelopes had been delivered to the individual mailboxes and that none of those mailboxes locked.”

This investigation is related to . Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton later confirmed the ballots were real when the community member returned them.

Scott Kusel said he found the ballots along the side of Greene Street Thursday evening, and he sent NonStop Local KHQ pictures and video of the discarded ballots.

Dalton said Friday that the ballots were delivered to USPS on Tuesday for the April 23 special election. All 26 ballots belonged to voters who live on three streets near Spokane Community College, and all were from the same zip code.

NonStop Local reached out to USPS for a comment but hasn’t received a response yet.
