Spokane firefighters investigate detached garage fire near Garland District

SPOKANE, Wash. — Ash Street has been reopened.

Southbound lanes along Ash Street near Garland Avenue are shut down as firefighters investigate a detached garage fire that occurred Wednesday morning.

On Jan. 17 around 8:30 a.m., the Spokane Fire Department responded to a confirmed structure fire near 4003 north Ash Street.

The caller told dispatchers that their shed was fully engulfed in flames and was approaching their house. All occupants inside the home were able to evacuate the home safely as they waited for units to arrive.

As firefighters arrived on scene, they shut down southbound lanes on Ash Street from Garland Avenue to Walton Avenue to battle the fire.

About 20 minutes after being on scene, Spokane firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

At this time we don’t know what started the fire or if there is any damage to the actual house. A fire investigator along with firefighters will stay on scene to investigate.

Roads along Ash Street are expected to reopen by 9:30 a.m.
