SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) has responded to three active house fires in the past 24 hours.

The first fire, reported on June 12 at 12:24 p.m. on East Sharpe Avenue, involved a kitchen fire causing smoke in the back of the home. Firefighters swiftly contained the fire to the kitchen, preventing further spread.

The cause was determined as accidental, with the stove inadvertently left on, igniting the cupboard above. No injuries were reported, but damages are estimated at $75,000, with property value saved at $250,000. The American Red Cross provided temporary housing for one woman.

The second fire, on June 12 at 6:07 p.m. in the 300 block of East Pacific Avenue, originated in a shed and spread to nearby trees. Firefighters controlled the flames quickly with minimal damage. The fire is considered incendiary, and investigators are pursuing leads.

The third fire was reported at 4:57 a.m. on June 13 on East Marietta Avenue. A passerby noticed smoke and alerted residents while using a garden hose to suppress the fire. Firefighters arrived promptly, discovering smoke in a duplex and extinguishing fires on the basement and first floor.

The duplex was unoccupied, and no injuries occurred. Smoke damage rendered the home uninhabitable. The fire is under investigation by local agencies.
