SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane firefighters responded to two structure fires this week, with one causing over $100,000 in damages.
According to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD), the first fire occurred Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. when Spokane and Spokane County Fire District 9 were dispatched to a reported garage fire on West Saint Thomas More Way.
Firefighters arrived to find that everyone had safely evacuated the building. Fire crews said that they quickly began extinguishing the blaze, which was brought under control within 10 minutes. SFD estimated that the fire caused $100,000 in damage to the garage but reported that crews were able to save most of the structure, preventing further damage to the building, valued at over $700,000. The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunctioning refrigerator.
On Wednesday at approximately 3 a.m., SFD said that they responded to another fire in the 1000 block of North Stone Street, where heavy smoke was reported coming from a small, vacant house. Fire crews extinguished the fire within the hour, and no injuries were reported. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
