SPOKANE, Wash. — Firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 9 and the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) will conduct training exercises next week in a former commercial building, thanks to a donation from Frontier Behavioral Health.

According to SFD, the building, which is scheduled for demolition to make way for a new patient clinic, will serve as a crucial training ground for the firefighters.

The training, set for Sept. 17-19 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., will focus on essential skills such as laddering and ventilating commercial roof structures, conducting victim searches in low-visibility conditions, and navigating large open spaces. Firefighters will also practice deploying hose lines over extended distances, which are often required in commercial fires compared to residential incidents.

During these sessions, South Cowley Street between East Sprague Avenue and East First Avenue may be closed to accommodate the drills.
