SPOKANE, Wash. – Court documents have revealed additional details about a deadly hit-and-run incident in downtown Spokane.
According to the documents, on June 11, Spokane police and Spokane Fire responded to a reported crash at the intersection of North Browne Street and West Main. Upon arrival, they found Janet Mann, 78, suffering from life-threatening injuries where she was pronounced dead a couple of hours later.
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) indicated that witness statements and video surveillance footage depicted Mann being struck by a truck, which subsequently ran over her. The truck fled the scene without stopping, cutting across a nearby parking lot where witnesses lost sight of it.
SPD obtained video footage from the Spokane Transit Authority that captured the truck and its license plate number. Through further investigation, including social media inquiries and traffic camera footage, police identified Gary Burns of Spokane Valley as the suspected owner of the truck.
With a search warrant secured, investigators arrested Burns at his home. He was subsequently booked into Spokane County Jail on one count of Hit-and-Run, with his bond set at $100,000.
