Spokane HVAC companies ramp up service during heat wave

SPOKANE, Wash. – Temperatures are on the rise in Spokane and HVAC companies like Hurliman Heating and Air Conditioning have seen a big influx in calls for AC repairs and replacements.

“We have been slammed, and so we have been doing our absolute best to make sure we can get everybody in as fast as possible,” Shawna McGraw, Dispatcher for Hurliman Heating, said.

McGraw said they received numerous calls for AC services on Friday, which will require technicians to work through the weekend to meet the demand.

“I’ve already seen the influx of calls coming in this morning already so I’m anticipating a pretty busy weekend too,” McGraw said.

Technicians like Cameron Vessell service five to seven homes per day and hundreds of systems over the course of the summer.

Vessell said the summers lead to many people constantly running their AC, which can damage it. He added that a variety of things can lead your ac unit to not work properly

“It doesn’t have to all be the outdoor unit either, it could be the indoor furnace, could be an airflow issue, the motor failed on the blower,” Vessel said.

Many problems can be caught before causing major issues, and monitoring your unit can make it last longer, according to Vessell.

“Yearly maintenance and then changing out your filters, recommended from manufacturers nowadays is each month. Key thing to having a good running system is airflow,” Vessel said.

In many cases, Hurliman said homeowners are choosing to just replace old systems instead of trying to fix the older units they currently have, which can save them money.

“It’s more costly to repair them than to replace them, so we are seeing a huge influx in replacements, especially because some people just don’t even want to deal with the repair they just want their AC now. I mean everybody wants to be comfortable,” McGraw said.
