SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane International Airport (GEG) was granted $18,162,037 that will be used to fund reconstruction and design projects.

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell’s Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announced that The Spokane International Airport and six other Washington airports were given a total of $48,088,774 through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

The GEG Airport will be using the funding towards the design and reconstruction of the airport’s Taxiway A.

“Spokane is on the move — last year, the airport welcomed a record 4.13 million travelers. With the opening of the new terminal building, this funding will help rehabilitate runway infrastructure to accommodate this added capacity at the airport,” Sen. Cantwell said.

Along with GEG, six other airports in Washington are also receiving grant money.

The Tri-Cities Airport will receive $12,734,150 for shifting the airport’s Taxiway D and Runway 12/30 to the northeast. Arlington Municipal Airport received $5,178,070 to reconstruct five airport taxiways. Sanderson Field received $4,300,328, Bowerman Airport received $2,550,000 to improve two airport taxiways, and the Olympia Regional Airport received $129,810 to purchase and install two zero-emissions vehicles and a recharger.

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport received $5,034,379 to fund two projects: one to fund a study of noise exposure at the airport and necessary testing to help facilitate the airport’s reduction of the impacts of PFAS firefighting foams at the airport and a five-mile radius.

AIP provides grants to public agencies to fund plans and development of public-use airports involved in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS).

Sen. Cantwell secured funding for air travel infrastructure nationwide, and through the infrastructure package, $25 billion was directed to airport improvements. The $25 billion was divided into $5 billion for the Airport Terminal Program and $15 billion in Airport Infrastructure Grants.
