SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane man is accused of starting a fire in the Geiger Correctional Facility bathroom using a tablet.

Roscoe Wood, 34, faces charges of first-degree arson. Wood allegedly used a tablet battery and clothing to start the fire, placing the bundle behind a toilet.

The incident occurred at the Geiger Correctional Facility on Tuesday. According to court documents, an officer was hospitalized for smoke inhalation while conducting final checks.

Authorities are concerned due to the many people housed at Geiger who might have been unable to flee if the fire had spread. Wood’s bond is set at $85,000.
