SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man was arrested Thursday after allegedly attacking someone with an umbrella when the person offered him candy.

According to court documents, the incident happened Wednesday in the Dollar Tree parking lot in North Spokane. The suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Orry Adams, reportedly approached a man in the parking lot and asked for candy.

When the man turned to retrieve candy, Adams allegedly struck him multiple times with the handle of an umbrella. The victim told investigators he sustained several injuries, including a cut on his head and cuts on his arms and hands. He said Adams stopped attacking him when another vehicle pulled into the parking lot.

Court documents state that Spokane County deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with Adams. After the victim and another witness identified him as the suspect — noting he was holding both the umbrella and a bag of Snickers — Adams reportedly tried to flee. Deputies chased and arrested him.

Adams was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and resisting arrest. He made his first court appearance Thursday, and his bond was set at $50,000.
