SPOKANE, Wash. – A man allegedly attempted to evade Spokane Valley Sheriff’s deputies on an electric scooter on Wednesday.
29-year-old Bradley Luiten was purportedly approached by deputies at about 4 am while riding an e-scooter on the 9300 block of East Montgomery.
Deputies claim that Luiten then tried to escape them on his scooter and fell, at which point he was arrested.
Law enforcement characterized the pursuit as a legitimate public safety action.
“The scooter did not have an illuminated headlamp, as required while riding in the middle of the road at night, creating a potentially dangerous situation,” the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Luiten has a prior conviction for mail theft and reportedly had mail on his person when he was arrested. Deputies assert that Luiten later admitted to stealing the mail.
He is currently in Spokane County Jail on charges of Mail Theft and Obstructing Law Enforcement.
