SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from deputies and being found in possession of drugs and burglary tools.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was conducting a routine check in an area that had been the target of frequent burglaries. At around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, the deputy noticed a suspicious silver truck parked behind a business near 11125 North Market Street. Upon investigation, deputies said that they found Kenneth Fuller, 55, the sole occupant, asleep behind the wheel of the car, with a plastic pipe commonly used for drug ingestion visible in his truck.
According to court docs, the deputy approached the truck, and he saw additional items that raised suspicion, including an Altoids container with a plastic bag and multiple tools that had been used in past burglaries at the same business. Hicks detained Fuller and advised him he was not free to leave. However, Fuller started the truck and attempted to flee.
Court docs said that a deputy assisting in the area deployed spike strips, which successfully deflated one of Fuller’s tires. Despite the damage to his truck, Fuller continued to flee eastbound toward North Market Street, prompting a brief car pursuit. Officers attempted a PIT maneuver to stop Fuller, but he was able to recover from the first attempt and continued driving erratically. A second PIT maneuver successfully spun Fuller’s vehicle, but he still managed to evade immediate detention, scraping his vehicle against a patrol car, which caused significant damage.
Court docs said after pulling into the Pull and Save parking lot and refusing to comply with commands to exit the truck, Fuller remained inside the truck for nearly 40 minutes. Officers eventually used less-lethal bean bag rounds and pepper balls to force Fuller to exit the truck. He was arrested without further incident.
Police said that during a subsequent search of Fuller’s truck, officers said they discovered several items consistent with criminal activity, including burglary tools, a plastic bag with white powdery residue, a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana and a plastic bag containing approximately 2.2 grams of fentanyl. Officers said they also found hypodermic needles, used foil and other items indicative of illegal drug use.
Fuller, who was later identified as the registered owner of the truck, was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and cleared for booking, according to court docs.
He was arrested on charges of attempting to elude law enforcement, obstructing an officer, resisting arrest, malicious mischief, possession of burglary tools, DUI and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
