SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was released from jail and allegedly attempted to break into a patrol car where a Spokane police officer was stationed, prompting his arrest within minutes of being released.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), an officer was sitting in his patrol car outside the Spokane County Jail when he noticed a man later identified as Denis Vasquez, 33, being released from jail. Police said Vasquez looked over the parking lot, spotted the officer, approached aggressively and banged on the car door.

The officer attempted to motion Vasquez away, but he continued to stare and motion for the officer to exit the car. The SPD officer then called for backup, exited the patrol car and detained Vasquez.

He was subsequently booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of second-degree attempted vehicle prowling, with his bond set at $500.
