SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after his charges were upgraded for
Jason Woodlief, 42, was originally charged with 2nd degree murder in 2021 and the charges were recently upgraded to first-degree premeditated murder.
Woodlief was tried in Spokane County Superior Court and pled guilty to his charges on Aug. 15.
He was sentenced to over 30 years in prison including a 60-month addition to his sentence for enhancing firearms.
Court documents said that Woodlief shoot and killed his roommate’s girlfriend, , during a drunken altercation in their Spokane home.
Woodlief was heavily intoxicated, argued with roommates, and followed Shimek to her bedroom before firing multiple gunshots killing her.
