SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man has pleaded guilty to a violent attack on his wife after beating her with a metal bar and cutting out her tongue eight years ago.
According to the Spokesman-Review, Vladimir Pavlik, 68, admitted to first-degree assault and domestic violence, according to reporting partners at the Spokane County deputy prosecutor’s office.
The incident involved Pavlik beating his wife with a metal bar and cutting out her tongue. Remarkably, the woman survived the attack and later wanted the charges against him to be dropped.
The case lingered for years as Pavlik initially pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity just last month. However, he changed his plea last week.
The prosecution and defense reached an agreement for a 117-month sentence, almost 10 years, with Pavlik receiving credit for the eight years he spent in detention. This means he has less than two more years left in jail.
