SPOKANE, Wash. — A week after the Spokane City Council passed a resolution calling on her administration to establish new traffic-calming measures, Mayor Lisa Brown is set to make an announcement on the topic Wednesday morning.
At their June 24 meeting, city councilmembers approved the resolution unanimously. That resolution highlighted increasing traffic deaths in Spokane and across the state in recent years.
It specifically called on the administration to adopt “adaptive designs.” Designs that fit this bill include bike lanes, curb extensions and crosswalks, among countless other infrastructure projects. As opposed to adding additional space for roadways, these strategies use the existing right-of-way.
