Spokane mayor proposes special attorney to focus on drug prosecution

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane’s mayor proposed a plan to implement a new Special US Assistant Attorney to focus on drug prosecution.

The new role will help the Eastern District of Washington address the opioid issue specifically targeting drug trafficking and dealing in the area.

“Our community has been deeply affected by the opioid epidemic. To address this crisis, I am looking to create a new special attorney role to target the root of the problem – drug dealing and trafficking. By focusing upstream, we aim to cut off the supply before it reaches our most vulnerable,” Mayor Brown said.

The proposed plan will be voted on by the Spokane City Council.
