Spokane Mayor responds to pride mural vandalism

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Downtown Spokane pride mural was defaced early Thursday morning, prompting a statement from Spokane’s Mayor.

“I am deeply troubled by the repeated defacement of Spokane’s Pride flag mural'” said Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown. “To the LGBTQ+ community, please know that I stand in solidarity with you against all forms of discrimination and prejudice.”

The mural on Spokane Falls Boulevard and Howard Street shows the rainbow flag between the intersection.

According to the Spokane Police Department the mural was defaced around 1:15 a.m. Thursday morning launching an investigation.

The City of Spokane’s street crews will help repair and clean up as much as they can on Thursday afternoon.

Details about SPD’s investigation will be released at a later time.
