SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane is taking a significant step in addressing homelessness with the opening of a new “medical respite” facility. This initiative is part of Mayor Lisa Brown’s “scattered-site” model aimed at providing support to the homeless population.

The facility is set to open at the Westminster United Church of Christ in downtown Spokane. It is designed to help stabilize homeless individuals who are suffering from chronic and acute illnesses, ultimately assisting them in transitioning off the streets.

The new facility will offer 30 beds to those in need. The city of Spokane is collaborating with Providence, Jewels Helping Hands, the Empire Health Foundation, and the Westminster United Church of Christ to coordinate the launch of this much-needed resource.

This effort marks a crucial development in Spokane’s approach to tackling homelessness, providing a space where individuals can receive the care and support necessary for recovery and stability.
