SPOKANE, Wash. – Five organizations in Spokane County have received a combined total of about $600,000 in Climate Commitment Act funding for clean energy projects.

All of the projects fund the installation of either solar panels or batteries, either for public areas or low income private areas.

Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners (SNAP) will receive two separate grants of $86,000 to begin community solar projects in residential areas. SNAP will also be awarded $129,500 for a large-scale solar innovation project.

The Sinto Senior Activity Center will receive $168,700 for a solar battery system.

Washington’s Department of Commerce handles Climate Commitment Act grants and took a victory lap with Governor Jay Inslee (D) when announcing the grants on Monday.

“This CCA funding is putting people to work on projects in communities most harmed by climate change and ultimately helping us provide cleaner air to all our children,” Inslee said.

Inslee has spent the outgoing period of his governorship highlighting the impact of the Climate Commitment Act and shoring-up his legacy on ecological issues.
