SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has arrested a teenager for allegedly starting a fire at a car wash in the South Hill area.
According to SPD, on Friday, July 26, around midnight, investigators arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with several fires on South Hill. Detectives identified the teen as the individual responsible for intentionally setting fire to a car wash on the on July 19.
Police observed the suspect near another business in the same area as the arson. After the teen left the location, officers contacted and detained him. He was taken to his home, where officers spoke with his father. Probable cause was established to arrest the 13-year-old on charges of second-degree arson and first-degree malicious mischief. Additional charges may also be considered. The teen has been booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
SPD indicated that this arrest marks the beginning of investigations into the . Police have also identified an 11-year-old in connection with some of the fires and have probable cause to arrest him. Due to the boy’s age and other factors, SPD is working with juvenile prosecutors to determine an appropriate resolution. Additional suspects are under investigation as police explore connections between the fires and those responsible.
Police emphasized that the arson fires on due to the hot, dry weather conditions. SPD and fire investigators are prioritizing these cases and are dedicated to identifying other suspects and ending these dangerous acts.
