SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department has announced a new plan to address criminal activity in parks and city spaces.

This initiative comes in response to a recent uptick in crime and arrests, particularly in northwest parks for after-hour violators.

The plan will be implemented throughout the summer, using an ordinance passed by the City Council. This ordinance makes it a misdemeanor to be in a park between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.A dedicated patrol team will oversee this plan, with officers instructed to issue warnings to violators before giving citations. With the exception of Riverfront Park, which will remain open until midnight, all city parks will follow this ordinance and its hours.
