SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police successfully rescued a missing woman using drone technology.

According to SPD, on Oct. 5 at around 9 p.m., police officers responded to a report of a missing person in the area of East Upriver Drive. SPD said that the missing woman suffered from night blindness was last seen in a wooded area approximately an hour prior, and was believed to be about a mile and a half from the officers’ location.

Police said due to the challenging terrain, members of the SPD Air Support Unit (ASU) were called in to assist. Utilizing a drone, ASU said they quickly located the missing woman. Video footage from the drone revealed that she was standing still near a tree.

Officers said they used GPS information obtained from the drone to navigate the dark trails and reach her location. They found her holding onto a tree, waiting to be discovered. Although she was cold, she was reported to be in good health according to police.

SPD said that the woman was then assisted down to the parking lot, where medical professionals evaluated her.
