SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police are urging drivers to use caution as freezing temperatures are making roads slick and icy.

According to a press release from the Spokane Police Department (SPD), officers are warning motorists to drive slowly and carefully as road conditions deteriorate due to weather on Friday night.

SPD reported a multi-vehicle crash on Monroe Street, just south of Francis Avenue, on Friday night caused by icy roads. Police advised drivers to ensure their tires, lights, defrosters, and wipers are in good working condition before heading out.

If involved in a minor collision, SPD recommends exchanging information with the other driver and filing a report online at https://wsp.wa.gov/ if there are injuries or if damages exceed $1,000.

Police also reminded drivers that speed limits are set for optimal road conditions and urged motorists to reduce speed and increase their following distance to avoid accidents.
