SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Pride hosted a history and remembrance event Tuesday highlighting the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Spokane.

The event included information on the Lilac City’s history of Pride events, the impact drag performers have made upon the community and the political gains made by queer people in eastern Washington.

Organizer Crystal Marché articulated the importance of the event in the current climate and her own hopes for how visitors experienced the event.

“We wanted to make sure to tell the vibrancy and the beauty of our own community…[The exhibit] explains where we come from, where we are and where we’re going,” Marché said.

After a widely reported episode of anti-LGBTQ+ vandalism downtown, the event highlighted the persistence of the community and the long history of queer communities existing in Spokane.
