SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools was named a 2024 District of Distinction, just one of six school districts in the country to be honored.

SPS was awarded this achievement after starting an initiative to ensure access and opportunity for all students. According to SPS, the initiative had a significant impact on student success, engagement and educational achievement.

“Our staff works hard every day to ensure that each student feels a sense of belonging and is supported in achieving their dreams,” said Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard. “I’m proud that their work is being recognized by the national educational community through this award.”

The District Administration Leadership Institute presented SPS with the title. The District Administration Leadership Institute is a pre-K through 12 organization dedicated to advancing educational leadership and providing necessary school resources.

According to SPS, District Administration Magazine is the nation’s most widely received and read publication for district-level school leaders.
