Spokane Public Schools works with feeder schools ahead of Groovy Shoes rivalry

SPOKANE, Wash. – This week marks Spirit Week for Spokane Public Schools, with the Groovy Shoes rivalry between Shadle Park and North Central high schools taking center stage at the Spokane Arena tonight.

The event promises an electric atmosphere as students, parents, and community members gather to support their teams. However, it’s not just high school students who will be in attendance. A significant number of elementary and middle school students from local feeder schools are also expected to join the festivities.

Both North Central and Shadle Park high schools have been actively engaging with younger students, teaching them dances, cheers, and routines. The goal is to involve these kids in the event and introduce them to the high school culture.

Elementary students will have the opportunity to dance alongside high school dance teams. These teams have been visiting feeder schools for weeks, preparing the younger students for the big night.

Every feeder school associated with both high schools has been invited to the game. This effort aims to keep the rivalry alive and well for future generations.

Patrick Donahue, from the North Central feeder pattern, emphasized the importance of this engagement.

“Just to be able to let them experience what the next level’s going to look like and the engagement and excitement around school, education, athletics and activities and just getting them involved to see what the whole experience is all about,” he said.

Scott Harmon from Shadle Park High School shared similar sentiments.

“Obviously when you get excited about being in the school you want to go to… you start thinking about Shadle Park as your school to go to in the future, whether it’s for drama or dance, or orchestra or band or other activities, we want kids to be excited about coming to our high school,” he stated.

Tickets for the event are priced at $11 for adults and $5.50 for students. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.

Parking is $10.
