SPOKANE, Wash. – Whether you are taking a stroll through Duncan Gardens or walking under the tent in Riverfront, it is clear that Spokane has a great parks system. According to the Trust for Public Land (TPL), Spokane has the 23rd best park system in the US.

The organization’s ParkScore system measures how much cities invest in their park systems as well as how accessible those parks are to residents. While the Lilac City was ranked 18th best in 2023, it has slipped this year.

“Spokane’s score dipped slightly this year because of declining park investment. The city spends $176 per person on its park system, down from last year’s $193,” TPL said.

Seattle scored much higher in the ranking at 6th best in the nation according to its ParkScore record.

Ahead of Expo ‘74 celebrations, Spokane City Council made a renewed funding push to prepare Riverfront Park for the 50th anniversary celebrations. It is unclear whether those choices will influence the city’s ParkScore next year.
