Spokane residents can save on energy bills with SNAP programs

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners (SNAP) is offering programs to help residents save on their energy bills. These resources are available at no cost and aim to make homes more energy efficient.

SNAP’s Weatherization program is designed to help residents reduce drafts, improve ventilation, and add insulation to various parts of the home.

The program also offers repairs or installations for water heaters, pipes, duct insulation, doors, windows, and furnaces. Interested individuals can apply for the program, which takes about five minutes to complete.

For those looking to save on monthly energy bills, SNAP offers the My Energy Discount-Washington program.

This initiative is separate from regular energy assistance and is available to Avista customers whose household income is less than 200% of the federal poverty level or 80% of the area median income. You can check eligibility here.

SNAP states that the threshold for this program is higher than before, allowing them to serve more families.

The My Energy Discount-Washington program was created in response to Washington’s Clean Energy Transformation Act and Senate Bill 5295, which require energy providers to offer energy-assistance programs and funding for low-income households.
