SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to four fires allegedly caused by fireworks between July 3 and 4.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), fire crews reported increased fireworks activity after 10 p.m. on July 3, following minimal activity between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. The heightened fireworks use on July 4 led to multiple fires in the area.
SVFD informed 35 groups about the illegality of fireworks in the region, noting that while most were apologetic, some were not.
As the night progressed, firefighters encountered aggression from certain groups, including an incident in which a man claimed veteran status to justify his use of fireworks.
