SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department held an open house on Saturday morning, providing families with a chance to learn about fire safety and emergency preparedness.

The event took place at the department’s training facilities. Visitors had the opportunity to try on firefighting equipment and were reminded of the importance of safety during the holiday season.

Community Affairs Director Patrick Erickson emphasized the significance of Christmas tree safety.

“Make sure that Christmas tree is watered if you have a real Christmas tree. Don’t overload any outlets if you have a bunch of stands of lights, be very careful with them, don’t plug anything into extension chords, plug straight into the wall,” Erickson said.

The open house was well-received by families, and even Santa made an appearance to enjoy the festivities.
