SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man was arrested by Spokane Valley deputies after he reportedly assaulted people and tried to kick in an apartment door.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, on July 16 at about 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a man later identified as Garrett Meyers-Morse, 20, who was assaulting people and attempting to kick in an apartment door at a apartment complex in the 2800 block of North Cherry Street.
Deputies spoke with a witness who intervened when Meyers-Morse began assaulting a woman. Meyers-Morse punched the witness several times before fleeing the area. No injuries were reported, according to the sheriff’s office.
Meyers-Morse returned shortly after and was reported to be assaulting more people and damaging a car with a large knife before fleeing again. Deputies and a K9 Unit were deployed to locate him, but he was not found. However, deputies recovered the large knife believed to have been used to damage the car.
About an hour later, additional callers reported that Meyers-Morse had returned to the apartment complex. When deputies arrived, they were informed that Meyers-Morse was standing in front of an apartment door. Deputies confronted him, but he refused to comply with commands, entered the apartment, and shut the door.
Given the potential presence of a child inside the apartment and Meyers-Morse’s recent violent behavior, deputies said they feared for the child’s safety and entered the apartment. The uninjured child was quickly removed and taken to a safe location, according to the sheriff’s office.
Meyers-Morse was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges including two counts of first-degree burglary, second-degree malicious mischief, four counts of third-degree malicious mischief and three counts of fourth-degree assault.
